- This is a 20 credit Part 2 module in the Philosophy Department.
The module is structured around a close study of Berkeley's Principles of Human Knowledge (1710). I have divided the text thematically into eight topics.
For each topic there is one lecture and a two hour seminar. This online facility is additional to those and provides an opportunity for students to discuss the text among themselves and to seek help when preparing for the weekly seminar. - A module for the MRes Bioinformatics (Spring Term, 10 credits)
- Twin Earth is a place almost indistinguishable from Earth except that the stuff in puddles and lakes and which falls from clouds is not water, it is a different substance. Twin Earth was invented (discovered?) by Hilary Putnam in 1975 and has been the subject of intense philosophical discussion ever since. This discussion uses Twin Earth to illuminate the nature of intentionality, understanding and self-knowledge.
'Twin Earth' is the name of a second year module in the Philosophy Department (4320048). It is taught by seminars and assessed by essays.
