Summary:

The aim is to enable students to glimpse some of the major advances in mathematics made over the past thirty to forty years. Usually, there will be three different topics and students will see techniques they have learned during their first two years applied to problems of current or recent interest they are unlikely to have encountered before. After introductory lectures students will be able to investigate interesting examples for themselves.
