Enquiries and Applications

Enquiries

If you have any questions about the course or the application process, please write to the Postgraduate Administrator, Department of Mathematics, University of York, York YO10 5DD, United Kingdom, fax: +44-(0)1904-323071, email: maths-graduate-admissions@york.ac.uk or call the Department of Mathematics, University of York at +44-(0)1904-323097.

How to Apply

Please follow this link to submit an online application.

Paper applications are accepted only in exceptional circumstances, for example, a disability that would make completing an online application difficult. If you would like to submit a paper application, please contact Postgraduate Admissions, email: pg-admissions@york.ac.uk or telephone +44-(0)1904 324000.

The application should consist  of:

  • Completed application form.

When you are completing the online application form, please:

- provide full contact details (including email addresses - please check that these are correct) for your academic referees;

- complete all parts of the form, including the Personal Statement;

- make sure that you have correctly stated your personal details, postal address(es) and email address.

  • Curriculum Vitae.
  • Copies of diplomas and academic or professional certificates, degree certificates and/or award letters.
  • Copies of academic transcripts including a list of courses taken (including the names of those courses), with marks.
  • Evidence of proficiency in English, if required (please see Language Requirements).

If it has been some time since your previous degree programme and it is difficult for you to provide details of two academic referees, then it may be possible for us to accept a reference from an employer instead.  In such a case, please provide your referee's contact details (including email address) on the form.  Any referee you nominate should be able to comment on your ability to successfully undertake the course for which you are applying.

Students who require a Tier 4 visa and who have already studied in the UK should be aware that they will only be granted a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) for a further course if:

  • their new course represents academic progress from their previous studies (for example, if they are applying to study for an MSc after they complete their undergraduate course), or
  • they are going to study for a qualification which enhances or complements their previous studies (if they have previously studied on one MSc programme and wish to study on another one).

There is no need to delay submitting your application if not all documents are yet available (though the admissions tutor may not be able to make a decision on your application until you have provided a transcript) or if you have not yet met all Entry Requirements. We can often issue conditional offers, subject to providing any remaining documents and meeting the entry requirements by the starting date of the MSc programme.

Currently, there is no deadline for applications though prospective students who need to apply a Tier 4 Visa to study in the UK should submit their applications no later than the end of July.

We shall be happy to respond to email enquiries, which should be sent to maths-graduate-admissions@york.ac.uk. However, we regret that we are unable to accept applications by email.
