Research interestsMathematical physics, variational theory and its applications. Brief BiographyAcademic career began in 1960 in Oxford as Junior Lecturer at the Mathematical Institute and then Praelector and Fellow of The Queen's College. Founder member in October 1963 of the Mathematics Department at York; personal chair 1976, Head of Department 1980 - 1990, retired 2001, Professor Emeritus 2001 - . Visiting Professor at the University of Wisconsin, and at Perugia University in Umbria.
