Mathematical Biology Group

Mathematical biology is fantastic and York is a great place to do it. Our thriving research group spreads its arms to cuddle many departments: Maths, Biology, Computer Science, Environment, Chemistry, and most recently YCCSA (York Centre for Complex Systems Analysis). Our research interests range from fundamental molecular interactions to the accidental mangling of birds by wind turbines, and we will use whatever beautiful and elegant maths we can get our hands on to find the answers.

Three permanent members of staff are appointed jointly by the Mathematics and Biology departments, and are based in YCCSA:

Jon Pitchford: Mathematical ecology, stochastic processes, dynamical systems
Reidun Twarock: Virus structure, virus assembly pathways, energetics of virus assembly
Jamie Wood: Complexity and emergent phenomena in biologically inspired models
