 |
Paul Desoisa BSc Mathematics and Statistics, 2012
Trainee Actuary, Punter Southall
|
| "The mathematics and statistics degree has provided me with the key skills sought after by employers, thus enabling me to enter both the field of finance and actuarial work through internship and graduate roles. The degree is highly respected, exciting and challenging, which is a credit to the brilliant lecturers at the University." |

Laura Maksymowicz BSc Mathematics and Physics, 2008
Engineer, BAE Systems
|
| "I started at BAE Systems the September after I graduated. I had been studying in Germany on the Erasmus scheme in my third year which was a fantastic experience. I felt that my degree gave me an advantage at interview because the skills you learn are so diverse and adaptable. The numerical and analysis skills are extremely useful to the work I do. The degree really helps to keep your options open, as you gain the skills to adapt yourself to wherever you want to be." |

Robert Taylor BSc Computer Science and Mathematics, 2009
Maths Teacher, Teach First, Trainee Lawyer, Clifford Chance
|
"I joined the Teach First Leadership Development Programme upon graduating in 2009 and taught for two years in an academy in Leeds. This experience allowed me to build upon the analytical and problem solving skills I had developed from studying Mathematics and Computer Science by working as part of a team and taking leadership responsibilities. After completing the programme, I decided to apply the logical thinking my Mathematics degree gave me in a different context by joining Clifford Chance as a lawyer. My unique career path demonstrates that a degree in Mathematics does not close any doors, but rather opens ones you may not have expected." |

James Grime PhD Mathematics, 2007
Maths Communication
|
| "Studying for a PhD at York was the start of having a greater command of the mathematics I already knew, by the virtue of having to use it every day. I also learnt that one of the most important skills to take away from a maths degree is the ability to communicate difficult and complex ideas in an understandable way. I now travel the UK and the world giving public talks on mathematics, or popping up on Youtube, in the hope of motivating and inspiring others." |
