Bursaries and Scholarships

The University has a range of general scholarships and bursaries available for home students and scholarships for overseas students. In addition, the mathematics department has available:

The Annie Curry Williamson scholarships

Generously funded by a graduate of the Department of Mathematics at the University of York, these scholarships provide £2,000 per year for three years and are available to UK students who wish to study Mathematics. From October 2012 the scholarship will target students from families with an assessed household income of between £25,000 and £35,000, with scholarships awarded on a combination of academic potential and financial need. For more information click here.

Scholarships for students paying overseas fees

The department also offers scholarships (in addition to the University's scholarships), in the form of a bursary of £1000pa for single-subject or Maths/Statistics and £500pa for other combined programmes, to all undergraduate entrants who pay overseas fees with an 'A' grade in each of the three A-levels used for admissions (alternative qualifications will be considered by the Admissions team). Continuation of this scholarship after the first year is dependent on satisfactory (upper-second class level, or 60% average) performance.

Other prizes and bursaries

The department has a number of prizes and scholarships, with a small financial reward, for outstanding current students. At present we award prizes for:

  • the best final year project;
  • outstanding performance in a BSc degree;
  • outstanding performance in an MMath degree;
  • the best performance in Mathematical Finance modules.
